From the wonder of wildflowers and their wildlife role, to insights into how they can work in gardens and how to further help and attract wildlife: my Exeter-area talks are light-hearted and informative, and audience interaction is encouraged!

Talks for primary school children

From fairytale characters to which plant has seeds like Hundreds and Thousands, my talks can help bring wildflowers to life for children and spark their curiosity in helping garden wildlife. Picture and video slides and tactile hand-outs help to engage short attention spans as I share some stories about wildflowers, how they help wildlife, and how to collect seeds, while asking some gentle questions along the way. A plug pack of wildflower seedings can also be provided for planting in school with a guide sheet, with talk content tailored to your class.

Lou’s passion and knowledge shone through during her talk, which was interactive, engaging and also informative.
— Hannah, teacher, Whimple School

Hannah, primary school teacher: "Our pupils, here at Whimple School, loved learning more about wildflowers and how they can attract a wide range of wildlife. Lou's passion and knowledge shone through during her talk, which was interactive, engaging and also informative. The pupils especially enjoyed finding out the nicknames of some well-known wildflowers and Lou happily answered their wide range of questions. She left us with a fantastic guide that has helped us to look after our plug plants properly. The pupils have planted them carefully and are looking forward to seeing the flowers bloom and the butterflies, beetles and moths come. We are also looking forward to welcoming Lou back again next year and can contact her in the meantime if we need any help."

Wildflower and wildlife gardening talks

Hear how wildflowers can work in gardens and small to medium outdoor spaces, the wildlife they attract and support, and accessible habitat and planting ideas to help play an exciting role in halting the decline of insects and other wildlife. I share insights from transforming my Exeter garden and the wildflowers I grow to help wildlife, brought to life with photos and video clips.

My experience growing wildflowers, working in organic and therapeutic horticulture and gardening for myself and others, combine with a love of communicating with people of all ages, from primary school children to older groups. I’m happy working with a wide range of people, from my background supervising vulnerable adults, working in charity and NHS communications, and training in broadcast media.

It’s not all about me talking at people: sharing ideas and information is encouraged!

Such an engaging, warm, funny speaker.

Such an engaging manner, coupled with humour and fantastic photographs of what is possible in an incredibly urban garden. I learnt so much...fabulous.
